DNA Sequencing

Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) provides the most comprehensive insight into the genetic code. It enables the identification of genomic variations, including single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), insertions and deletions (indels), structural variations (SVs), and copy number variations (CNVs), all within a single, cost-effective assay.

Whole-genome sequencing of animals and plants provides a comprehensive understanding of the DNA sequences within their genomes. The resulting marker loci can be used to analyze data at both the individual and population levels, facilitating the study of other genomic variants. This represents a crucial step toward improving plant and animal species and advancing agricultural development.

The human exome is estimated to contain approximately 180,000 exons, which constitute about 1% of the human genome, or roughly 30 megabases. The objective of this approach is to identify functional variations responsible for both Mendelian and common diseases while accounting for the high costs associated with whole-genome sequencing and the need to maintain high sequencing depth. Therefore, whole-exome sequencing (WES) represents a less costly yet still highly effective alternative to whole-genome sequencing (WGS).
